Meet the neighbours – they live in one of the largest nature reserves in the Western Cape

Wildlife

Canetsfontein is home to many beautiful animals, a number of which are listed as endangered species. The following wild animals have been spotted on the estate within recent years:

  • Leopard
  • Caracal
  • Porcupine
  • Aardvark
  • Honey badger
  • Steenbok
  • Grysbok
  • Klipspringer
  • Duiker
  • Wild boar
  • Tortoise
  • Black eagle
  • Buzzard
  • Egyptian geese
  • Ducks
  • Plenty of baboons, Guinea fowls and other birds

Canetsfontein shares an unfenced border of about 5 km with the Limietberg (Hawequas) Nature Reserve of 117 000 ha, so there is a chance that you may spot some of our neighbouring animals or those that have made their home on our estate. However, we cannot guarantee any encounters. Due to the presence of predators, most animals are shy and it requires skill and patience to spot them.
